Proof!

Proof that she knows her daddy!

Easter and First Words!

I forgot to blog about Easter! Here ya go...belated and all. I guess I should explain some of these pictures--Kairis received more Easter presents this year than I think I ever have in all of my Christmas' put together! :) Three dresses, a huge easter basket full of chocolate (for mom and dad of course! :) ) two adorable "vintage" bonnets, (cause everyone needs a bonnet on Easter!) a new summer outfit, and probably more I'm just forgetting about. We had one of the "best" Easter's this year, yet. It was really wonderful to be able to celebrate with Kairis, and just relax and be in the presence of God and our families this year.

As of today, Kairis has officially said her "first" word. A few months ago she would cry "mamamama" in her sleep occasionally, but I never thought it was a real cognitive recognition of the word. Today, a few minutes ago while I was looking through pictures to blog, Kairis said "da-da!" when we'd find pictures of daddy. How sweet!!!! She also said "up!" when she wanted up on my lap today. So, we called daddy and she showed off on the phone even! She was saying "da-da" every chance she could on the phone to Tim today. I doubt he'll ever forget this moment. Well, I'm off to class soon to present the Oregon Conservation Project, and the Oregon Biodiversity Project, amongst other things for my environmental science class. Wish me luck!

What we're up to and other random thoughts...

Big news around here! Kairis cut her first tooth last night, on her 8 month birthday! I gave her a ginormous carrot to gnaw on in her high chair last night while I was finishing making dinner with Tim, and shortly after Tim noticed something funny in her mouth. He felt around in there and felt a sharp little edge coming through her bottom gum. Sure enough, our peanut sprouted her first tooth--it's just barely above the surface today. Surprisingly, she's been in great spirits for nearly a week now, and didn't show any other signs of teething. Go figure...maybe all of those colds she had the past two weeks were leading up to this...?
On a sad note, some friends of ours passed away in a rock climbing accident on Sunday afternoon. It was a freak thing and I am still having a hard time collecting my thoughts around it all. This story has been in the news lots lately, but still, for privacy I won't be mentioning their names. Tim and I knew the gal (she's my age) who died and her husband, from Multnomah. Her husband was uninjured, but lost his young wife of 4.5 years and his older brother at the same time. I can't even imagine what he must be experiencing right now. We go way back to my childhood years at Eagle Fern Camp--her older sister was my camp counselor one summer. It seemed that everywhere Tim and I went, we'd somehow run into this young couple--school retreats, musicals, church gatherings (we didn't attend the same church), social events, and even our latest run in with them...a restaurant in downtown PDX a couple months ago. I attended the memorial today, and though I only knew one side of the family that lost their beloved, my heart goes out to the other family as well who lost their son/brother/father/husband. It was a packed out place at Good Shepherd, and I am thankful to have been able to go. Kairis was so well behaved, though we did sit in the cry room for most of the service "just in case". On a side note, I wish our church had a "cry room" for moms with young babies. That would be way cool. I was able to enjoy the entire service behind a glass wall that's sound proof and has the sound system wired through, without having to "shush" Kairis or leave the sanctuary every time she wanted to talk. Anyway...what a beautiful service and day to remember two young people who impacted our community for the greater good. They will be missed immensely.

Enjoy some pics of my sweet girl I took today...(you get them all since I couldn't choose the best one in the bunch! ;) )

How cool is this?!

I love Tim. I had no idea how much fun it would be to be married to an artist....it's like the "icing on the cake" for me. I'd say I have a fairly decent eye for design, but without Tim, I'd have no way to create it. I love that I can give him some ideas of what I'm thinking and have him put it into play. Whether it's rearranging a living room, measuring and taping off stripes on our wall for our daughter's nursery, or now...creating a family tree in our dining room. Tim painted this on our wall yesterday, and did it all free hand. I love it, and can't wait to hang some family pictures up and teach Kairis about her extended family members. I tried to get some good pictures, but unfortunately, last night, the lighting in our dining room didn't make for any great
pictures.
