Cure for Monday Morning Blues

A lovely walk in the AM....wind, leaves that reflect fall, a jogging stroller, a baby that likes to take naps in her jogging stroller, an ipod, an ipod with good podcasts to listen to and reflect upon, a good pair of shoes....and solitude.

We had a great walk, despite the look on Kairis' face here! She was getting a bit antsy when we got home, ready to be held again. But, I couldn't resist running upstairs and grabbing the camera to capture some of our early morning moments together....outside.

Kairis' first visit with her Auntie!

Tim's oldest sister, Angel visited us last weekend...all the way from Oklahoma! We felt honored she wanted to come this far, and spend time with us and our new daughter. We took Kairis AND Angel to the Ocean for the first time--it turned out to be a beautiful day at the beach, just a little windy. Enjoy these pictures!

A peek into the future...

So, my friend, Christine came over last Friday for the day and helped me can the rest of the apples from my grandma's apple tree. Her daughter, Daylynn joined in the fun and I think for the first time, I got a real glimpse as to what our home could potentially look like in about 2 years...Daylynn had fun playing with all of Kairis' future toys...:)

We all had a fun day....and I canned 22 large jars of applesauce!

Pumpkin Patch

We decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather last Saturday and visit Sauvie Island's pumpkin patch. We enjoyed taking Kairis to her first pumpkin patch, though I don't know how she felt about it. I think she slept through most of the trip. We sure had fun though! We enjoyed a hay ride, cinderella pumpkins, people watching and contemplating the moral legalities of sneaking through the corn stalks to the corn maize without actually purchasing a ticket. In the end, our conscience got the best of us, and we exited the corn stalk farm. ;) Enjoy the pictures! -H

8 Weeks and Growing....too fast!

Kairis had her 8 week check up yesterday. She's in the 90th percentile for her height, at 23" long, and in the 75th percentile for her weight, at 11lb 13oz. My girl is growing up. Too fast. I am longingly looking at her baby pictures wishing at times she stayed itty-bitty. However, I am thankful she's so healthy and doing well. It's been so fun watching her smile at us and achieve new milestones too. Tim and I are loving our little "corn-bug" as Tim calls her. :)

Some friends of mine got together for a morning of shopping at kid consignment stores last week...lots of fun!
I'm struggling with a bit of a cold, but hopefully will be back into full swing again soon. Last week, my friends, Kristi, Andrea, Christine and I canned peaches, pears, apples, and tomatoes. It was quite the day, but well worth all the effort! I'm excited to have a well stocked pantry this year full of fresh fruits and veggies. Kairis will get to have her first fruits this spring from this past summer produce. So happy about that!!

(this pic's for you, Joel. A lethal dose of Lycopene poisoning! :) )

On Saturday, we got together with Joel and Lani...Tim finished up their bathroom remodel, and Lani and I thought we'd venture down to Buffalo Exchange to turn in some clothes for trade. Okay, so it was my brilliant idea. What a joke. I at least walked away with a $33 credit, but I can't say it was entirely worth our efforts. :) If you want the full scoop and a moment or two of laugh out loud moments, check out Lani's blog on the right side. It's quite humorous.

G'night!

She LOOKS like momma, but she ACTS like daddy...

Some of you follow Lani's blog, and a while back she found this cool little application to see hat kind of IKEA furniture you would be.

Tim

Heidi

Kairis

As you can see, I am a dresser and Kairis, like her mother, look like a bed.

However, just last night, Heidi pointed out to me something that was quite cute.

If you notice in this photo of Kairis sleeping, you will see her little foot sticking out. Evidently, Heidi has noticed this before during nap-time, but this has been happening so often, that is is a regular quirk of hers. I know exactly where she gets it because her daddy has to have his foot sticking out of the covers when he gets too warm. (and in the summer when it is really hot, he has to shake it until he falls asleep!) :) Heidi pointed it out to me and I had to smile. She may look like Heidi, but she's a daddy's girl.

By the way, if you want to have some fun with the IKEA name generator, this is the link. http://www.blogadilla.com/2008/05/11/the-blogadilla-swedish-furniture-name-generator/

More Smiles

Our cute little corn-bug and her dinosaur jammies

Ok so I have become the sort of dad who makes up silly names for his daughter. She was my "peanut" until Monday when she became my little "corn-bug". Hopefully this phase will pass before she comes to the age where I become "uncool dad".
Anywho, I want to share a short video of my little girl and her cuteness. Enjoy...

"my first haircut"....

Ok so this title is misleading.

First of all, there were more than just one hair cut. (I don't even really know why they call it a haircut when hair is singular and multiple hairs are being cut. kinda like "pair of pants" when there really is only one, not a pair of them. Could you go out an buy just one pant? "Excuse me, but I'd like to buy just one pant..." they don't sell them like that and how would one even separate pants to get one pant? Where would one pant end and the other begin? Would you separate them logically by making a vertical line dividing the right leg from the left? Maybe that is where we got shorts, someone decided to divide them horizontally loping off the bottom half of the legs leaving what we now call shorts. Anywho, I digress).

Second of all, in cycling back to the haircut, this "first haircut" is not hairs from who you might be expecting. I am sure most all of you have been waiting to hear me tell about my daughter's first lock of hair and the whole experience, but I am actually referring to my own hair. I am referring to the first short haircut I have gotten in about 2 years. I enjoyed the longer style for a while, but in my current job with dust flying everywhere, I decided I had enough of carpet fuzz on my head. So, I lost a few inches.
Check out the before and after photos. I am curious to hear your feedback and thoughts. Heidi says it still doesn't look like me, but then again, the "long" hair didn't look like me either when I first started that too.

In other news, My little girl is smiling a lot and I LOVE being her daddy! We had our first real conversation today. She was looking at me and making some noises while intently looking at me. Not sure exactly what she said but we were communicating. Later she made us both laugh with her dinosaur pj's. I'll post a video before the weekend.
